Addressing the crowd, Bhojpuri actor-turned politician, Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari said,  “It is a matter of pride for the people of Poorvanchal that the Prime Minister of the country Shri Narender Modi has made Varanasi as his own Constituency. The MP from Varanasi of Poorvanchal became the Prime Minister of India and now India has become the fastest developing country in the world.”

He also felicitated the workers on the occasion of New Year and Makar Sankranti and said that the people of Poorvanchal have achieved their place with the help of their hard labour.

“Today we should resolve to follow this tradition in future also”, he added.

Tiwari said, “The sun of development which has risen in the east will brighten the entire country in the year 2019. When in South, East and West the sun of nationalism has risen then why Delhi should be far from it. He said that we should now resolve to create sun of development in Delhi also which will brighten the country from Banaras to the rest of India.”

In a show of strength, delhi unit of BJP uses this opportunity to exhibit its Poorvanchali dominance in the city.

Addressing the Poorvanchalis, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said,” There is no corner in the world today where the people from Poorvanchal do not live. Wherever they went for their livelihood they contributed for the development of that land with their hard labour. “

“Whenever any movement was started for the nation the contribution of the people of poorvanchal has been excellent. He said that after participating in this programme it seems that the people of poorvanchal have connected themselves with the development of Delhi”, Prasad added.

To win the confidence of Poorvanchali voters in the national Capital,  Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, organised this major programme to celebrate Makar Sankranti.

It is being seen as an attempt by state unit chief Manoj Tiwari to consolidate the Poorvanchal vote bank.

With Lok Sabha elections scheduled in 2019, the party wants to cash in on the vote bank, which played a crucial role in AAP’s win in the 2015 assembly elections. BJP members said the party is making serious attempts to strengthen its base in slums and unauthorised colonies, which have a high percentage of Poorvanchali population.

In Delhi, there are 20 Assembly constituencies or 80 municipal wards that are dominated by Poorvanchalis where they constitute 17 to 47 per cent of the vote share. In the 2013 assembly polls,Tiwari campaigned on 19 of these seats of which 14 came to BJP’s kitty.

Among the Poorvanchali dominated seats in Delhi include, Rajinder Nagar, Vikaspuri, Dwarka, Uttam Nagar, Badarpur, and Patparganj.
